Discovering Frankfurt’s Rich History and Culture at Römerberg Square

Römerberg is a public square located in the heart of Frankfurt’s historic Altstadt (Old Town). The square has been a central hub of activity in the city for over 800 years and is home to some of Frankfurt’s most notable landmarks, including the Römer, Frankfurt’s city hall.

The Römerberg is lined with a number of historic half-timbered buildings, many of which have been beautifully restored to their original medieval appearance. These buildings house a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes, making the Römerberg a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

In addition to the Römer, other notable landmarks on the square include the Gothic-style Alte Nikolaikirche (Old St. Nicholas Church) and the Haus Wertheim, one of the few buildings in the area to have survived the bombing of Frankfurt during World War II.

Throughout the year, the Römerberg plays host to a number of events and festivals, including the Frankfurt Christmas Market, one of the largest and most popular Christmas markets in all of Germany. Overall, the Römerberg is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Frankfurt and looking to experience the city’s rich history and culture.
